my every damn day list (and why you should have one, too).

04/27/2018

After last weekend’s blizzard – nearly 20 inches of snow… OMG… spring has finally arrived in Minnesnowta in all its sunny pasty white skin glory. And man, is it amazing.

Winter was rough this year – the dark subzero days just never seemed to end. Maybe getting through a Minnesnowta winter is another form of endurance training? Like any race, there was a lot of positive self-talk to remind me that there was no possible way it could stay cold and snowy and bundled in an ankle-length down jacket forever… right? (For the record, I wore mine nearly every day from October to mid-April this year – seven months, people!)

In addition to the positive self-talk, there were also little things I did to keep my spirits up. Pretty mundane things, actually, but nonetheless they brought small moments of sunshine + happiness to each day. I didn’t have a name for them until I read a blog post from Yes and Yes

The every damn day list.

Ah-ha!

The every damn day list is a short list of small things you do every damn day no matter what. They’re the little things that bring you small moments of joy. And they bring a small sense of accomplishment even when every other part of your day is ho-hum or not going as planned. I think we can all agree: the world needs a little more kindness and happiness in it. So why not start with you?

With that, my every damn day list – and I realize it’s longer than it probably should be, but all of these things bring me little moments of happiness ♥ (I didn’t include sweating in the form of swimbikerunyoga because that’s just a given for me – it (usually) happens regardless.)

  • fresh air for at least 15 minutes
  • make the bed
  • legs up the wall and foam roll
  • read for 20 minutes in bed before lights out
  • tart cherry juice and San Pelligrino along with my daily supplements
  • close my eyes and take five deep breaths
  • check my bank account
  • put things away in their right place right away (like hanging up my jacket in the closet)
  • say something nice to someone
  • a glass of kombucha
  • a square (or three) of dark chocolate

Now it’s your turn. What’s on your every damn day list? Tell me in the comments below! I’d love to hear.

I agree! Winter was REALLY long this year! I too am glad to see the grass turning green, the daffodils starting to bud, and the temps finally starting to warm up a bit! My list: Doggy snuggles (sometimes it’s with one of the girls and sometimes both), meditate, smile at a random stranger, my AM bottle of booch, my NBS Goodnight drink before bed, my attitude of gratitude journaling (reflecting on the day and remembering the positives + gratitude moments), reading a book (no technology) and turning the pages before bed…I’m sure there were others, but these are the ones that stand out at the moment. Thanks for sparking this reflection!

YES to snuggles and walks (even short ones) with the furry friends!
I am also completely spoiled in the morning and get a homemade latte from the mister.
Take in the view at SOME point during the day – and be thankful for the mountains in Colorado.
