december 2021 things.

12/29/2021

In this series, I share my favorite things from the past month – what I’m watching on one of the streaming services, the book I can’t put down, what I’m wearing on repeat. So here are my December things. Now tell me: what were your favorites from the past month? Let me know in the comments!

beauty

If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know about my genetically imperfect brows. I’ve had them microbladed, ombred (and they need to be done again), and have tried every brow product under the sun. But I keep going back to beautycounter’s brilliant brow gel. It fills in my brows and keeps them in place all day (and sometimes in the next if I’m lazy and don’t wash my face at night). But one of the best parts is the application wand. It’s small, making for precise application without coloring outside the brow line. See comparison between beautycounter, ilia and merit below.

fashion

Not leaving the house that often means joggers are life. My favorites: Beyond Yoga’s midi jogger. Super soft, flattering high waist, beyond comfortable.

recipe

No recipe this month, but instead a supplement that Nick and I have been taking for the last year and a half: Athletic Greens. Aside from my postnatal vitamin, this is the only supplement I take. I can’t recommend it enough! I have more energy, am super regular (TMI, but even right after having Jackson), and all around just feel better.

TV/movie

We wrapped up The Shrink Next Door (Apple TV+) this month, and whoa. I wouldn’t necessarily say it was great, but that’s because the story itself is heartbreaking and just sorta painful to watch. The basic premise: psychologist Ike (Paul Rudd… does this dude even age?!) weasels his way into patient Marty’s (Will Ferrell) life, and nearly 30 years, he more or less takes it over.

On a lighter note, we love to wrap up the day with an episode of the Local Project. The Australia-based site showcases stunning design and architecture – my jaw is usually on the floor and I cannot stop saying “omg that’s gorgeous” and “I want our next house to have that / feel like that.” The Australian accents are lovely, too.

baby

Still love the lovevery play gym, but we needed something that was a little bit bigger and easier to move from room to room. The Toki play mat fit the bill – it folds up and it’s super soft and cushy for Jackson to play and roll around on.

book

The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. I couldn’t put down this book about a woman and her family during the Dust Bowl and Depression. Not quite as good as her other book The Great Alone, but still a great read about a strong determined woman.

home

We’ve long been trying to wrangle our clean water bottle/baby bottles/dishes counter situation and haven’t found anything that worked – until now. We upgraded from a wool drying mat (that always felt dirty) to a silicon drying mat and bamboo bottle drying rack and it’s finally functional. I chose the mat mostly because of the color, and I wish it were a little bit bigger. The drying rack is a game changer. Bottles dry faster and don’t fall over anytime we basically walk by the counter like they did before.

sport

Our go-to hydration since basically 2013 has been Skratch, but for half of the last year, I haven’t been doing workouts long or intense enough that warranted hydration or snacks. But now those are back – yay for the church of the Sunday morning long run! – and so is Skratch. I forgot how much I loved lemon & lime hydration and the raspberry chews (so glad the crunchy sugar coating is back on those!).
