Monday, December 10 – our first Christmas tree!

Tuesday, December 11 – pretty sure I could have relaxed in child’s pose for the entire 60 minutes of vinyasa tonight. My mind has been going 17 miles a minute the past week, and the quiet of my mat, surrounded by candlelight, steadied my mind.

Yoga: vinyasa, 60 minutes.

Wednesday, December 12 – after a crazy day and a 45-minute commute home, I was beyond exhausted when I got home from work. All I really wanted to do was sink into the sofa with a glass of Malbec, but Sonia and I had made plans to run at 6p. I’m SO glad I didn’t bail. Running was *exactly* what I needed. The slick + slushy Summit Avenue sidewalks made it a bit slow going, but the fresh air… ahhhhh. Fantastic conversation, too 🙂

Run: 4.07 miles, 43:11 (my Garmin missed nearly a half-mile, so it should be around 4.5 miles).

Thursday, December 13 – tonight was craft night with my sister, cousin Margaret and friend Jesikah, so I got in a quick run down Summit and Selby with Nick after work. The sidewalks are still slick, resulting in a slower than normal pace since I’m carefully watching every step. After a long day staring at the computer screen, the fresh brisk air felt good on my eyes!

Run: 3.58 miles, 33:10.

Friday, December 14 – after a busy week, I was so ready to relax onto my mat at the cozy yoga studio. And, it felt amazing until until I did my first chatarunga. I have no idea what happened – perhaps running on uneven slick + slushy sidewalks? – but my right big toe hurts. It’s been broken a couple times – mind you, both times were self diagnosed, but when you can’t bend it, it’s probably broken, right? While I don’t think it’s broken this time around, something’s definitely wrong. All class I babied it, modifying everything that required balancing on that toe.

Yoga: vinyasa, 60 minutes.

Saturday, December 15 – what a fun morning! I met Performance Power teammates Sarah, Sonia and Suraya for a solid 5.5-mile run along river road. Despite the chilly pouring rain, we smiled and talked the entire time. The fun continued over Longfellow Grill brunch when Nanette joined us. Every Saturday should start like this!

Run: 5.5 miles, 50:41.

After brunch, I met Emily of shopCOLLECT at Pretty Mommy in south Minneapolis (OMG… this shop is fabulous!) to pick up a vintage fisherman’s sweater I found on her Etsy shop. The afternoon rounded out beautifying at BANGbang with a cut + color from my dear friend Jesikah. How has it been eight months since I last had my hair done!?

And, Saturday evening: Two holiday parties!

Sunday, December 16 – today started with a leisurely two-hour brunch at Birchwood Café. I honestly can’t recall the last time we’ve done that… so nice! We stopped by REI on the way home to use the gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket, but there was nothing I absolutely loved, so both Nick and I walked out empty-handed. That’s definitely never happened before!

After a lovely afternoon nap, we met Sonia at lululemon Grand Avenue for candlelight + cocoa. Surrounded by twinkle lights and blissful breath, we vinyasa-ed to Shahar Eberzon‘s beautiful voice. Jason lead a lovely flow and reminded us that yoga is now. In light of Friday’s tragic school shooting – my heart is still aching – it was a good reminder to live in the present, enjoy every single moment and take time to hug your loved ones tight.

Yoga: vinyasa, 60 minutes.

Weekly stats

A good week of running and yoga, but I really missed spinning (I still haven’t picked up my bike at Urban Tri) and surprisingly, I miss the pool. And, for the amount of snow we got last weekend, how did I not ski?!

Run: 13.15 miles, 2:07:02
Yoga: three classes, 3:00

This week: I’m planning on joining P2 on Thursday evening (Coach Matt’s been on vacation the past 10 days) and pedal for pancakes on Saturday morning. There will definitely be a couple hours in the cozy yoga studio, too, before we head up to Hallock for Christmas.

What about you? How are you incorporating fitness into your day during the holiday craziness?

I love your snowy run picture! I can’t believe you guys have so much snow and we haven’t seen drop. I saw a running group at Panera this Sat am and was super jealous. I need to stalk down some running friends this winter for snowy runs : ) I’ll add that to my bucket list : )

Yes! Running with a group during the winter (or even all year!) makes the cold disappear! And, it’s so much more fun 🙂

I was in Chicago yesterday and today… no snow at all!

It would have been better if I wouldn’t have had a flat tire on 94E in south Chicago… yikes!

Yikes! So sorry to hear that! Hope all worked out well and you are home safe and sound. Next time come in the spring/fall and we can do a bike ride!
