Monday, May 7 – solo spin down Summit, the Greenway and around Isles and Calhoun. It was fairly breezy on the ride out, but the tailwind was sure nice on the way home!

Thanks to twitter, I finally found some pretty sweet women’s specific tri gear, SOAS Racing. I just ordered the shorts in pink peacock and can’t wait until they arrive. Full report once I wear ‘em on a ride!

Bike: 27.34 miles, 1:45:53.

Tuesday, May 8 – short run down Summit to the Cathedral and back home down Selby. Run-wise, I felt pretty good (no hammy or hip twinges), but I never really found that running rhythm… you know, when it feels effortless and like you could run for hours. No Garmin tonight, so calculated distance via MapMyRun.

Run: 3.67 miles, about 35 minutes.

Wednesday, May 9 – just 25 fast kettle bell swings today, as Nick and I went to Woodbury to visit my sis and bro-in-law. Such a great evening looking at old pictures, catching up and grilling burgers.

Thursday, May 10 – today was quite possibly one of the most perfect evenings to bike… low 70s, light breeze, not a single cloud, glimmering sunshine. After a crazy, stressful day (hit + run… while I was DRIVING my car to work… karma’s a b*tch, dude), there was nothing I needed more than a couple hours on my bike. I pedaled one of my usual routes: Summit to the Greenway, then circled Isles, Calhoun and Harriet.

A fantastic ride… until about four miles from home when my right knee started throbbing. It ached so much that I more or less just pedaled with my left leg the rest of the ride. Hmm… not really what I need right now, considering training is picking up the next month. A guess – my bike needs to be re-fit. Since I bought it two years ago, I’ve never really had it custom fit. A few adjustments were made when I picked it up – ok, only the seat was adjusted – and that’s how it’s stayed for 3,500+ miles. Come to think of it, my shoulders and neck have been pretty achy after each ride this season. Anyone have any bike fit recommendations?

Bike: 30.27 miles, 1:56:10

Friday, May 11 – spontaneously took a much-needed day off. After sleeping in (yay, no traffic stress!), I got my om on at a C2 vinyasa yoga class at the CorePower Yoga Grand Avenue studio. A balance-focused flow bookended by lovely savasanas, yoga during the middle of a workday is pretty blissful. There is no place I’m more at peace than on my yoga mat.

Saturday, May 12 – I wanted to bike – what a gorgeous May day! – but thought resting my knee one more day would be a good idea. So, after Nick left on an 18-mile run (he’s training for Grandma’s Marathon), I laced up for my own down-and-back to the Cathedral on Summit. Once home, I spent a little time foam rolling the hammies and quads. My pal, the fabulous Jen of Survival of the Fittest, recently posted this pro foam rolling article from Bret Contreras… a good read, check it out.

Run: 4.3 miles, 40 minutes (calculated again via MapMyRun).

Following a lovely afternoon nap, Nick and I dined al fresco at our favorite spot, Birchwood Café.

Sunday, May 13 – Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for you.

Nick and I started the day with a bike / run brick. Nothing too far, but good to acclimate my legs to the transition. Plus, it was another perfect spring day – gloriously sunshiny – and what better place to spend it than outside?! My knee started to ache a bit on a couple hills… patellar tendonitis perhaps…? No problems on the run, though, other than a high heart rate at the end of our two miles (~165 bpm). Followed up with more foam rolling… I have a love / hate relationship with this thing.

Bike: 15.31 miles, 57:33
Run: 2 miles, 16:00

Mid-afternoon, we hopped our bikes one more time, this time with Nick’s mom, Mary (she bought a road bike a couple weeks ago). Our ride was short-lived, however, as Nick flatted not once, but twice about two miles in. Total ride: 4.25 miles.

Weekly stats

Bike: 77.16 miles, 4:39:36
Run: 9.97 miles, 1:31

My fitness goals for the upcoming week: swim at least once (this failed to happen this week… bah!), a couple bricks, yoga twice (more centering this week is necessary) and plenty of foam rolling.

What about you? What are your fitness goals – or goals in general – this week?

This week, I want to log at least 25 miles running; Bike to work four days, bikram yoga today and possibly Sunday. I’m registered for a 1/2 marathon for Sunday, but I may skip it since my recently torn adductor was burning after the 1/2 marathon last week (mustn’t push it). If I don’t run the race, I’m going to do a long run in the morning and yoga in the afternoon–no medal, but hopefully no pain.

Nice, Andria! A torn adductor sounds painful… hope it heals soon. Definitely don’t push it too much… rest up and heal!
