giveaway // minnesota state flag day 5k

Updated 05.11.2014: Congrats to Heidi for winning!

Hard to believe, but I’ve only ran one 5k since high school – and, it wasn’t chip timed.

Not sure why other than the endurance junkie in me usually wins out. Just give me all the swimbikerun all day long!

That said, I nicely asked coach let me run the Minnesota State Flag Day 5k on Saturday, June 14. The race benefits the Minneapolis VA Fisher House, which provides accommodations at no cost for family members of those receiving treatment at the VA hospital. How cool is that?! Proud to support those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and selflessly served our country.

The third-annual race, organized by the Minnesota Daughters of the American Revolution, is a beautiful, fast and flat two-loop parkway course. Bonus: It’s USATF-certified and chip timed.

Bummer for me, coach put the kabosh on running it – no speed work until July, thanks to that pesky stress fracture I had earlier this year – but, lucky for you! I have an entry to give away, so leave a comment below by noon on Saturday, June 7, about your summer race plans and/or tweet about the race.

When: Saturday, June 14 at 8a
Where: Northwest Metro VA Clinic, 7545 Veterans Drive, Ramsey, MN. Free parking available.
Registration: $25 in advance at or; $30 race day registration.

Too bad you can’t run it, but so smart to listen to your body (and your coach)! I love races for a good cause!

Too bad you can’t run it, but better to play it safe than sorry. It is funny…yesterday I had my students asking me, “How fast can you run the mile?” I responded with, “I don’t know…I don’t just run one mile.” To which they responded with, “How fast can you run a 5K?” I said, “I haven’t ran a 5K since 2011, so I don’t have a very accurate time to give you.” It is amazing how our mindset changes as we start to go longer and longer :)

Running is my jam. I’m going to start training for a half soon but I think the 10k is my ideal distance but I love a good 5k. I hope you are healed and ready for speedwork soon!

Stupid stress fracture! But, smart coach! :) I haven’t run a 5k in years either. Would kind of be fun though, so short! And then I would feel like I need to do something else that day, in order to feel like I worked out…lol

So sorry about your stress fracture… you are doing the right thing by playing it safe! I hope it gets better real soon… I’m sure it’s driving your crazy. I also don’t run 5K’s… the thought of paying to run only 3.1 miles seems crazy to me! I’m also starting to feel that way about short distance triathlons… I guess I’m an endurance junkie too:)
