For being so tiny, it’s wild just how much stuff a baby uses. And how quickly they transition from one thing to the next. What Jackson needs and uses now is so different from what he needed as a newborn, so here’s a look at what we found useful when he was 4-6 months.
toys and activities
Baby Björn bouncer. We have two bouncers, but this one is by far Jackson’s favorite. He recently figured out how to make it really bounce (so hard I wonder if he’ll fly out!), and it’s the cutest.
Jolly Jumper. Jackson is obsessed with this jumper. He smiles and giggles the entire time – it’s the cutest thing! –and pretty sure he’d jump for hours if we let him.
Lovevery play gym. Jackson has spent so much time playing on the lovevery! He loves batting the bell and toys and studying the high contrast cards. Can’t recommend the lovevery enough. Their play kit subscription is fantastic, too. I love that we don’t have to think about what toys are best for each stage of his development, and it’s so fun seeing him engage with each one.
Toki play mat. We needed something that was a little bit bigger and easier to move from room to room, and this play mat fit the bill. It folds up and it’s super soft and cushy for Jackson to play and roll around on.
gear
Eufy Spaceview Pro baby monitor. We went back and forth about what kind of monitor to get (and didn’t get one until Jackson was 4mo) – wifi-based or a closed system and ultimately decided on the latter because of security concerns. We’ve been really happy with it! The picture is super clear, it has sound, you can talk to baby through it, and it’s easy to move the monitor itself around. It’s also allowed us to keep an eye on Jackson while we workout after his bedtime – yay for the 7p workout!
Guava travel crib. It was a sad day for me when he outgrew the Snoo and we transitioned him to the Guava in our bedroom – time is a thief 😭 We aren’t quite ready for him to sleep in his crib in his nursery on the first floor so he’ll be in the Guava for awhile. We love how easy it is to set up and take down, the mesh sides, and that there’s a zipper opening on one side for easy access.
Lewis burp clothes. I will never not rave about these burp cloths.
Merlin magic sleep suit. The little dude learned how to roll back to tummy around four months so we swapped the Halo swaddle (he wasn’t thrilled because he loved being swaddled) for the Merlin, and it’s been great.
introducing solids/feeding
Other an a single bottle during the day – one overnight feed starting at a couple weeks old until about 4 months and now one when I’m working – I’ve exclusively breastfed Jackson since he was born so we haven’t really needed any feeding supplies. He was totally fine with the bottles that came with my Motif pump and the bottles we got at the hospital. But now he’s suddenly almost 7 months old (HOW.) and we’re starting real food (and by real food I mean purées).
Baéba babycook. This steamer-food processor combo makes making your own baby food a cinch. It takes all of maybe 10 minutes to steam and purée fresh veggies and fruits.
Lalo little spoons. These silicone spoons are shaped perfectly for Jackson to eat from, and he loves to hold them, too.
Mushie silicon bibs. Super easy to put on, adjustable neck, a pocket to catch food (or spoons), and made of silicone.
Tripp Trapp highchair. I cannot get over how big Jackson looks sitting in his highchair 😭 The Tripp Trapp is super versatile and works now (with the baby set) and will when he’s bigger.
clothes
Jackson basically lives in zipper footie jams. And I mean, who doesn’t wanna live in pajamas?! We’re obsessed with Goumi footie jams and love that feet and hands can be in or out thanks to fold-over cuffs. Other favorites are Kyte, Noble waffle footies, and Primary footies.
Patagonia fleece bunting. This has been our go-to just about every time we go outside. It’s perfect for the stroller (under the cozy ganoosh footmuff) and in the carseat. And on really cold days, it’s great under Patagonia’s down sweater bunting. It runs a smidge big so plenty of room to grow.

I’m loving these lists – they are super helpful in figuring out what to register for! Thanks for sharing! I’m curious what your must haves for YOU are? Nursing Bras, Nursing tops? Those things you cover up with when nursing in public? Are there good momming books that you are reading or other momma blogs, etc? THANKS!!
Aww, happiest congrats, Lindsay! When are you due? I’m so glad the lists are helpful. Find some of my favorites here: https://sweetsweatlife.com/2021/09/17/my-newborn-essentials/ … I mostly wear the pumping bra during the day and then sleep in the skin to skin bra (both are so soft and comfy!). It’s just easier and faster (for me) to pull up a bra vs. unclip a nursing bra. Big fan of Bodily breast pads, too! They’ve been a must. I have a couple nursing tanks and tbh, I’ve barely worn them. Just easier to wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt and pull that up! Given covid, we haven’t been out and about much, but the times we have I’ve just nursed and used Jackson’s blanket as a coverup. Two favorite books: Nurture and Expecting Better. That’s really all I read (aside from the L&D class we took)! Holler with any other questions! Happy to chat!
Oh man – your blog is SUPER helpful and I find myself checking back to make sure I have everything we need! Apologies for the LOOOOOOOONG delay in responding. We are due March 31st! THURSDAY!! What? I can’t believe she’s almost here! Ooh – I”m going to have to check out Nuture! I loved Expecting Better! Thanks for the suggestions!! I ordered the bodily breast pads! And great suggestions about the t-shirt and the sweatshirt – THANK YOU!
