I’m not much of a resolution person, but I am a fan of setting goals at the start of the year (and at one point, I chose intentions for my year, too). There’s something about starting fresh in January, with something to work toward throughout the year. Here are five I’m focusing on in 2022.
spending more time outside
I’m very much a homebody, and pandemic times have made it even harder to leave the house. And now that we’re knee deep in winter, I’ve kinda been a big baby about getting outside (does anyone enjoy when it’s -20F, though?!). Recent afternoons at the dog park, however, have reminded me that even when it’s brisk, fresh air is revitalizing. So, here’s to much more time outside – in a renovated, more functional backyard this summer, and fingers crossed, this fall in Hawaii where we can dip Jackson’s feet in the Pacific.
decluttering all the things
Being stuck at home during the pandemic has made it clear just how much stuff we have – and how much less I want. We’ve donated and tossed so much, with plenty more to go, so I’ll be focusing on decluttering not only physical stuff, but also digital stuff (like the 40k photos on my phone!). And along with cleaning it all up: making sure what we do have functions well for our needs.
being present
I spend my fair share of time staring at a screen, scrolling or watching stories – UGH – but if having Jackson‘s taught me one thing, it’s that time is a thief and what is the point of scrolling and watching other people’s lives when mine is happening right in front of me?! I’m resolving to put the phone down, turn off the tv, and just be (and maybe even be a little bored!).
writing more
I really missed my corner of the internet the last few years, and it’s been great to flex my creative writing brain again the past few months. Planning to do more of it this year, too, so if you have post ideas, let me know!
sticking to strength training
I’ve long known just how important strength training is, but beyond a few kettlebell swings and lateral band walks every now and then, I never made it a priority. That changes this year. I started a program a couple weeks ago and so far it’s been exactly what I needed (meaning someone telling me what to do every time… ha!), and I’m feeling stronger already.
What about you? Did you sent any goals or intentions for 2022? Let me know in the comments!

I enjoy reading whatever you want to post about. I love hearing about the pups and getting Jackson updates-he definitely gets his facial expressions from Nick. I can’t run anymore, so I enjoy hearing about race training…and the core work to look after those knees! I really hope your trip to Hawaii is a go-I’ll enjoy seeing those pictures 🙂
And of course, I like to hear about what books everyone is reading. Though I am trying to read less and move more this year. Reading is great, but too much sitting isn’t healthy either. I started a yoga streak in late October and am almost at 100 days! I want to start doing more challenging classes as I need to get my heart rate up more.
Cheers!
Aww, thanks so much, Amy! More of all of that to come, including a recap of my 2021 reads 🙂
You are amazing – that yoga streak! Well done! Do you an online program? I hope you’re well and staying warm!
I have subscribed to yogadownload (dot com) for years now and love it. I know you can get free yoga on youtube, but ads are not my jam and I’m very picky about what I want from yoga. I’ve tried studios and they’re fine, but I prefer yoga at home with my space heater 🙂 I think it’s around $100us per year for the full membership and I couldn’t be happier with it. You can stream so many different kinds of classes and download to save them (depending on your subscription) if your wifi is being a pain. You can also purchase different subscriptions or pay per recorded class. They have free ones too-you do have to make an account though. My favourite teacher is Jackie Casal Mahrou 🙂
That’s fantastic, Amy! I’m so glad you found what works for you! Yoga at home with a space heater sounds cozy and lovely 🙂
