With Kona and our first family trip canceled this year, we knew we had to escape Minneapolis for a few days. I hadn’t left the 494-694 loop since September 2020! Flying wasn’t an option given covid rates and a baby who can’t wear a mask or get vaxxed (even though he’s getting antibodies from me), so that limited our drivable options. So we chatted with friends who live in Marquette, Michigan, and made the 7-hour drive to see them. They were great hosts, and we had a lovely time!
The weekend highlights: dipping Jackson’s toes in Lake Superior for the first time (freezing, but he didn’t mind until he got splashed!), a hike up Sugarloaf Mountain, watching downhill mountain bike racing, leaf peeping (the leaves were peak color!), a morning run around Presque Isle Park, booch and cardamon rolls at the farmers market, a solo fat bike ride (where I managed to get lost on an out-and-back, but to be fair, it was creepy foggy and getting dark), delish eats, and watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall (because I’d never seen it). Bonus: travel schedules aligned on the way home, and we got to see Montana and Oregon friends at their Wisconsin lake cabin ♡
Jackson was an awesome little traveler! He chilled and slept in his carseat, only getting feisty once during the 7-hour drive. Hopefully that’s a sign of how he’ll travel on future trips – because we have some fun adventures coming up next year!
All in all, we loved Marquette – it was great to experience it in warmer weather, as we’d only been there in the middle of winter for the Noquemanon ski race. With that, our trip in photos…
