When I was about eight months pregnant, I basically only wanted to eat World Street Kitchen’s crispy marinated tofu Bangkok burrito (and still do, just hold the secret sauce, please!) and smoothies. So while out running errands on a Saturday afternoon, we stopped at Agra-Culture for a smoothie a friend recommended – the nutty espresso.
No surprise, it was delicious, but it was also like $9 (with protein added). So to save some money and time (the restaurant is a 15-minute drive), I recreated a similar – and dare I say better – version at home.
Four months later, I’m still making it nearly everyday because I have yet to tire of it!
Nutty espresso smoothie
8 ounces oat milk
1 banana, fresh or frozen
6 dates
1 tbsp almond butter
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
2-3 dashes cinnamon
shot of espresso (optional)
ice cubes to your consistency liking
Add ingredients to blender and blend. Enjoy!
Things to note:
- Ritual’s plant-based Essential Protein for pregnancy and postpartum is my go-to.
- Dates are delicious and can potentially soften the cervix and induce labor. The smoothie’s tasty without them, too!
- Fresh or frozen banana are equally tasty! Frozen makes for a thicker smoothie.
