Find some quiet.
That’s been number one on my to-do list the past few weeks. Because January was filled with all the overwhelm (who else is with me?!).
I’ve been making space for quiet when I can – during the dark, 30-minute 6a drive to masters sans music or podcast, sneaking in a 15-30 minutes of reading before bed – but it hasn’t been enough.
week 5 positive: find some quiet
So, last week I made a conscious effort to find more quiet. I took a few epsom soaks, got a massage, went to bed a bit earlier, turned off the news + social media. And, on Saturday before my run and before Nick woke up, Luma and I snuggled on the sofa while I finished When Breath Becomes Air. (Is there anything better than puppy snuggles and a good book?!)
And, this book, you guys. Read it. It’s beautiful and tragic and will make you reflect on your own life. Questions I keep asking myself after reading:
- How do I define meaningful?
- What makes a meaningful life?
- Am I living a meaningful life?
My answers aren’t fully formed yet, but I do know that parts of my life are incredibly meaningful – Nick, my family, Luma, being an auntie, triathlon, to name a few. And, other parts… not so much. Which is one reason I’m making space to embrace the quiet… so I can find and hear the answers. Because there’s no other way to live than to live a life filled with meaning (however you define that meaning).

Love this. Quiet is so important. Excited to read When Breath Becomes Air.
I read “When Breath Becomes Air” this past summer when we were going through a difficult patch, and it definitely made me pause and reflect on life. It’s a beautiful book – tragic yet uplifting, if that makes sense.
When Breath Becomes Air was my favorite book last year. It’s so tragic, but so insightful. Your follow up questions are spot on!
