During a recent trip to Chipotle – the first one in months – I asked for more guac (because the spoonful was tiny!). As she scooped another (small) spoonful onto my barbacoa salad, the potbellied dude next to me in line kinda gave me a look, so I said, “Double guac is ok… I worked out for five hours today!”
My comment really riled him.
“Why would you do that?!” he asked, as if I’d really lost it (ok, maybe I have… ha!).
Aside from the fact that I felt like I needed to justify what I was eating – um, no, I shouldn’t, and neither should anyone else – it made me think about my why. What pulls me back to 140.6? And, why on earth would I race IRONMAN Arizona just six weeks after Kona?
My initial answer: Because I can.
Sure, I do it because I can – and, I’m incredibly grateful that I *get* to. I’ll never take that for granted.
But, it’s not the only reason.
I’m chasing my light tomorrow – IM #6! – because it lights me up. It pushes me outside my comfort zone (where you learn and grow the most!) and challenges me both physically and mentally. It makes me feel alive. Afterall, as Jim Whittaker says: If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.
With that, here we go!
I’m bib 769. Track me on ironman.com (AG start is 6:50a) or on twitter + instagram at @erinklegstad or @njwtrimn (Nick is my personal photographer and will be updating all day!)!
The biggest thank you to everyone who’s supported me along the way and helped me get here ♥
