I’m a bit behind (does anyone else already feel a smidge behind this year?!). It’s late January, and I’m finally getting to my 2014 intentions. And, my goals? Watch for those soon, too.
In 2013, I took a different route on the whole resolutions thing and instead set intentions (compassion + kindness, strong body, be present). I checked in on them often, and for the most part, they guided my year. This year will be no different, and while last year’s intentions will continue, this year will primarily be guided by the following…
focus
As much as I love social media, it’s made me less focused and less productive. Between the 17 tabs open in Chrome, checking twitter + instagram, listening to music, working on my blog, reading other blogs, drinking Numi tea and guava kombucha, etc., life can get a bit blurry bouncing between them. This year is all about focus (because we all know multitasking is overrated)… focus on my work when I’m working and focus on my training when I’m training. Productivity, here I come.
believe
Self-doubt can be a sneaky little thing, creeping in slowly and then… bam! It hits, hard, and you’re left wondering if you can finish the project, if you’re are a good writer or if you have it in you to cross the line. Well, eff that. I can, I am and I do! Belief in yourself is a powerful thing.
keep going + do the work
When it gets tough – and, it will… that’s part of life – keep going. Keep going through that interval, keep going through that sticky situation, and you’ll come out the other side stronger. Danielle LaPorte nails it in her piece, decide to rise:
Push. Turn up the volume. Go hard. Go harder.
Reprioritize your aches and pains.
Infuse you sensitivities with courage.
Tell fear to fuck right the fuck off.
Devote yourself to done.
Here we go, 2014.
Have an incredible, intentional year, friends.

Love this! A great reminder for all of us in our day to day.
I love the idea of setting intentions instead of resolutions!! Last year I really started spending more time “focusing” and “believing” in my training and racing. This year I think I need to spend more time focusing and believing in other areas of my life. Thanks for sharing the motivation by Danielle LaPorte…I LOVE IT!!
love this Erin! Well said. You are an amazing person, and such an inspiration to give life everything we got. 🙂
” I can, I am and I do!” Love that! You are awesome, girl!
Stuff does tend to get very blurry with all the white noise that surrounds us. Good intentions for sure.
I love the idea of intentions instead of resolutions! Focus is definitely something that I’m working on, too. It’s so easy to get lost in a thought pattern that’s not beneficial my current activity. Focus is where it’s at.
Great intentions!! I like focus!! I need to do more of that!! Here is to a great 2014!!
That’s the spirit!! I will keep this post in mind for inspiration. And yes, when you need it, put the muffler on! Wise words.
I always start the year behind, that’s why I’m still writing about what I did on my Christmas holiday 😉
Great post and intentions this year; I’m with you in all of them. I especially like how they’re not so specific and can also apply to every aspect of your life. It is so refreshing to read goals that will work toward overall calm, betterment and drive.
I also like your poem, swears and all 🙂
I love this post. I can relate to each of the intentions. And, what a great idea! Here’s to kicking arse in 2014!
LOVE your intentions- both from last year and your new ones for 2014. I may borrow the idea!
Focus, believe, and keep going. You’re going to have an incredible year!
Being Present is a huge part of my intentions for 2014 too! Best of luck and can’t wait to watch your year progress!!!
These are such great intentions for this year! I want to work on believing this year too. I know you will have a fantastic year!
Great intentions, I am sure you will have a great year!!
I definitely like the idea of intentions. I have to set goals at work and while I’m very goal-oriented, I balk at setting “personal goals” and resolutions. However, the idea of intentions has a different feel to it.
These are great – thanks for sharing and can’t wait to hear about your 2014!
I love how you say “work when you work, train when you train”
It sounds so simple but its constant effort! Great post Erin!
So I wound up on this post after clicking the focus link from your taper post and the Focus issue totally made me think of me (as I’m flipping through multiple tabs on Google, watching netflix and halfway doing my ACTUAL JOB!…oh) but I love love love the idea of setting intentions! And as soon as I read the 2013 intentions post, I’ll go back to work. Promise.
Oh, can I relate to that! Story of my daily life, too. #allthetabsopen
