There was a whole lotta swimbikerun love last week, and I’m still high on the training-induced endorphins! Pretty sure my mood directly correlates with my bike mileage… it topped 100 miles for the first time since last fall, and I’m still smiling.
Even better: Not one, but three bricks, including a 52-mile bike + four-mile transition run. All felt surprisingly good. Progress!
Here’s a breakdown of my biggest training week yet…
Monday
Brick number one: 27-mile bike + 2.24-mile transition run. Taking pictures on the tri bike is a bit trickier than the road bike, but rest assured, I took the pic below during my cool down, so I wasn’t going that fast.
Tuesday
Super chill 2,200-yard morning swim before leaving on a day trip to Detroit.
Wednesday
Brick number two: 27.5-mile bike + 3.8-mile transition run. Everything about this brick felt great. I didn’t want to stop biking, and I didn’t want to stop running.
Thursday
I had dinner plans with my best grad girls, so I brought my run gear with me to work (to save on some drive time across MSP) and left on my 90-minute tempo run from the parking ramp downtown. The first 3o minutes at AeT felt great, the 30 minutes of tempo… decent… and the final 30 minutes… ouch. It was humid, and I had zero water. And, when you don’t have water, all you can think about is water. It crossed my mind numerous times to run down a passing cyclist for their water bottle! A local Dunn Bros. saved the day, and then I went and bought this. Thank you, lululemon.
Friday
Friday night fun in the pool! So many 75s and some flip turn work… 2,400 yards + leg press after swimming.
Saturday
A group of us had plans for a 70 to 80-mile road bike ride at 9a, but thunderstorms rumbled in and stuck around until about 12:30p. When it cleared, we headed west for a 52-mile ride. The Madone got some love! It was a bit of an adjustment the first couple miles – it felt so touchy at first! – but then… biking bliss. Sonia and I rounded out the ride with a four-mile transition run down Minnehaha and around Lake Harriet. Thanks for a fantastic ride, Chelsea, Sonia, Damon and Dan!
Sunday
Thunderstorms rumbled in again this morning, so this morning’s 90-minute got pushed to late morning. It was a bit humid and I got sunburned, but it was a nice recovery run with Sonia along the Mississippi in downtown Saint Paul. And, I hit the pool late afternoon for 2,900 yards of pulling and some more flip turn practice. Still getting water up my nose, but they’re getting better!
In non-training news…
Because legs up the wall is perfectly acceptable at the office… right?
Saturday nights are best spent around a bonfire with your a few of your favorite people. #bestlife

You’re so sweet… thanks, Danielle!
impressive, as always, sista! Pass me some of your motivation+energy! That trail you were biking on looks gorgeous. Where is it? I want to bring Finley+Lucy on a walk there. (are walkers acceptable?) xoxo!
Sending your way, Sista 🙂 It’s the Cedar Lake Trail, and yup, there’s a walking path, too! Definitely take Finley + Lucy for a walk there… we should go together! xoxo!
I’m so impressed with your weeknight workouts (and the length of them!)…I can barely get myself to the gym at night…ugh!
Some nights it’s a struggle, Emily, and eating dinner at 9:30p isn’t always great, but it works 🙂 Thank you!
I love your bike mileage to endorphin ratio! So true!
What an awesome bike group you have! It’s always exciting to ready your workout updates!
It IS true! I haven’t been on my bike much this week, and it’s been a crankier week 🙂
Super fun group… can you believe I met a couple of them on twitter when I moved to MSP five years ago?! 🙂
Thanks, lady!
