I learned three things this week.
- Dehydration headaches are horrible. Saturday’s workout started out great with 2,950 yards in the pool followed by an even better 35 miles on the Argon. But, about halfway through my four-mile transition run, I knew I was in trouble. My head started throbbing, and my stomach wasn’t happy. After I got home, I chugged a glass of water, a bottle of Skratch raspberries and some chocolate milk, but couldn’t stomach the thought of food for about an hour. I spent the rest of the night on the sofa and re-hydrating; the throbbing didn’t stop until about 3p on Sunday. The lesson: MORE ELECTROLYTES AND WATER! Even it means a sloshy stomach.
- I need a watch that reads mile splits. Running with my Garmin Edge 500, a cycling GPS, no longer works. Example: Saturday’s transition run, the first official brick of the season. My legs felt like lead, but turns out I ran sub 8s. T-runs don’t need to be that fast… reign it in! And, time for a 910XT!
- Biking. Is. Bliss. There is no place I’d rather be than in the saddle. Now, if I could just figure out how to get paid to ride my bike all day 🙂 More on the Argon’s inaugural ride this week!
I was on the road (again) for work Thursday and Friday, so after a late afternoon meeting, and just ~750 kcals all day (not smart!), I hopped on the hotel treadmill for a 90-minute run. And, just like that, I’d ran 10 miles. Not pictured: the gluten-free pizza I devoured after 🙂
In non-training news…
It was a fairly busy week, as we had dinner with Nick’s mom at Birchwood on Tuesday, and, on Wednesday, ran and grilled burgers at Sonia’s house with her and friends Sam, Kyle and Matt. Sonia’s new miniature golden doodle pup, Ruby Roo, couldn’t be any cuter!
Hyedi and I also caught up on Sunday over coffee at Parka… two hours felt like five minutes! I always leave our conversations feeling so inspired.
And, apple carrot beet ginger juice! I’m trying not to let this turn into an expensive habit…
Weekly stats
12 hours, 30 minutes. (My biggest week to date!)
Swim: 7,550 yards, 2:59:22
Bike: 87.82 miles, 5:13:06 (one trainer spin + two outside)
Run: 25.94 miles, 3:48:09
Strength: 30 minutes
This week: My first tri of the season is Saturday! Watch out, Take the Hill sprint! The forecast isn’t looking that great – a high of 48 and possible rain – so cross your fingers for some sunshine!
Have a great week, friends!

That is a huge week of training and especially impressive considering your travels. Dedication right there. 🙂
It’s tough getting ’em in on the road, but the treadmill beats being lazy in the hotel room! 🙂 Thanks, dear!
Wait, wait, wait. You are going to do an outdoor triathlon in 48 degree weather? OMG!!! Someone get a HOT bath ready for you pronto!
Side note: great training! You are kicking booty! Keep it up chica!
