ironman canada // week nine

04/08/2013

My biggest week yet! And, really, it was a great week. No crankiness, no badittude, less no annoyance with the dust that’s overtaken everything. Just all out happiness that training is in full swing – and, it’s pretty fun!

This week’s highlight: Sunday’s training day triathlon. It started with an awesome 3,250-yard swim. I had the lane to myself, and my stroke just clicked. Even better, I swam a 1:33 100 that didn’t even feel hard – and, at the end of the workout no less. Progress in the pool feels good! (And, so did the 1:30 100 I hit on Friday morning!) A 90-minute stacker spin left me soaked in sweat and starving, but I went out for my 3.5-mile run anyway. Bad idea. I battled some light headed-ness and borderline bonking the last mile and promptly downed an Orgain recovery protein shake the minute I got home.

Other highlights this week… long runs! An hour of rollie pollies at 5:45a was a great start to Wednesday.

And, Sonia and I rocked an 11-miler on Saturday along the Mississippi in Saint Paul. So glad the rain held off! And, can’t wait to bike up the high bridge (shown below)! My Strava QOM stills stands from 2010 🙂

In non-training news…

The bike got special treatment on Monday en route to my bike fitting with the bicycle fit guru, Chris Balser. With a tweak here and a few tweaks there, he worked some serious bike fit geometry magic. There’s still a tish to adjust at another fitting, but it’ll get there. Post to come on this fantastic fitting…

I joined a few of my #teamSOAS ladies on a whole foods eating challenge for the month of April. And, after some juice talk on twitter with Katie and Penelope, I HAD to have fresh juice. Ginger zinger is quite possibly the best post-swim second breakfast ever. Someone may need to restrain me from buying one every.single.day or I will be broke within the month (I’m looking at you, Nick).

Friday nights are the BEST with my favorite ladies: My sista, Finley Kathleen and Lucy Francine.

Catching up with good friends is awesome. So is ARTCRANK. These bicycle posters are gonna look pretty sweet hanging on our bare walls.

In big toe news, it hurts again. Not sure what I did, if I accidentally kicked something or if my running shoes just have too many miles on them (they do), but damn, it’s painful. It ached the last couple miles of my long run this week and is all around just irritating most of the time. Ugh.

Weekly stats

11 hours, 38 minutes.

Swim: 8,150 yards, 2:57:30
Bike: 43.55 miles, 2:49:13 (trainer)
Run: 27.69 miles, 4:21:42
Yoga: one class, 60:00
Strength: 20:00

This week: Well, we’ll be on a boat. In the Bahamas. On a boat! In the Bahamas! Which means there will be lots of swimming, a little running on the islands we visit and a lot of vitamin D. And, I cannot wait.

Have a lovely week, friends!

Orgain is delicious and a great recovery drink! I get it at either Kowalski’s or Mississippi Market. The juice is from MM. I’m trying not to form an expensive habit 🙂

      Thanks, dear! Training is FUN!

Look at you just killing the training! Nice job with the swimming! It’s amazing how different it feels once it clicks! Have a great trip and bring some of that warmth and sunshine back with you!

I must have missed you on the river road 🙁 it was a beautiful day for a run!
We need good weeks to remind us what we’re doing is for our health (and awesome goals) and not to simply drive ourselves crazy. Which is sometimes what I feel like I’m doing. Good weeks are so re-energizing and rewarding.

You’re *exactly* right, Kellie! Hope to see you out running one of these days! Love bumping into you!

Thanks, dear! We had a TON of fun! Kinda fell off the whole foods, no processed eating, but everything in moderation, right? 🙂
