ironman canada // week eight

04/01/2013

Does anyone else get a bit cranky during Ironman training? Because I had on some serious crabby pants this past week. Ugh. The unorganized house, dusty wood floors, eating dinner at 9:30p, Garmins strewn about on the dining table, FOUR bikes in the living room, mountains of laundry, crunchy chlorine hair… I’m taking a deep breath and reminding myself that I don’t have to do this, I GET to do this. I get to train for an Ironman. I get to swimbikerun every single day. And, despite the crazy disarray at home, early morning and evening workouts, and not much free time for anything else, it is pretty awesome.

Plus, I have some pretty fantastic training partners: my lovely hometown girls Nanette-Sarah-Sonia-Suraya and my rockin’ #teamSOAS ladies! How did I get so lucky to have such incredible, strong women in my life?! I have to pinch myself everyday 🙂

Anyway, other than snapping a bit at my other half one time too many last week (sorry, baby!), week eight of Ironman Canada training was pretty solid.

Progress continues in the pool… during a descending 100s workout, I hit a 1:31, a time I didn’t think possible just eight weeks ago. Apparently lots of time in the pool actually pays off!

I zonked out in Saturday’s savasana after a hard vinyasa sequence that showed me just how crazy tight my hips are. Even warrior two kind of hurt! (Also, denim wunder unders aren’t the best if you sweat buckets during class.)

And, a solo Sunday morning 11.45-mile run – the longest since last summer – goes by much quicker on a new(ish) running route. Can’t go wrong running along the mighty Mississippi!

In non-training news…

We renewed our passports! Bimini… one week! Not that I’m counting…

Channeling spring with polka dots, lilac and melon… it kinda worked because temps hit the mid 50s this past weekend.

Nick’s a natural, don’t you think?

And, much of the weekend was spent cuddling with my fave little lady 🙂

Dang girl — you are one speedy swimmer. And don’t worry about the messy house. I think you can be an Ironman AND have a clean house. It’s just not possible 😉

Yeah 1:31!!!!!! I hit a new low on my 100 free last week too (1:24:4!!!)…hadn’t seen that time since college! You’ll be under 1:30 in NOOO time! I’m so proud of you!!! And I can’t speak to Iron(wo)man training but hard core Birkie training makes me crabby and my house is a mess cuz I’m never there with coaching/training and my laundry is 90% ski clothes and there is dust everywhere and yes dinner is always around 9pm no matter what. And you know what…the dust is still there and it doesn’t matter! 🙂 I get to have that kind of fun…that’s luck and happiness and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

You have reason to be crabby, that’s a lot of time! At least you have your sweet niece to make you forget about all of it, right?

Yes, you get to do it! and your making it happen. I think its hard to balance training and life stuff…you should see my laundry bin. Proud of you! go Erin!

You’ll have to share some of those swim workouts! I am just working on getting to the pool but once I get that down, I’d love to spice things up! Your first paragraph made me smile. I was def exhausted and cranky during marathon training and I can’t imagine the ironaman where you are exercising up to 20 hours per week. I don’t know how people do that and work! I can barely balance the work things : )

You’re a rock star! I love to read your updates, I love that you can turn your crabbiness around by thinking of the blessing it is that you get to this. You’re an inspiration, keep rockin girl!
