Whoa. Where did February go? I blinked, and it was March 1. Work travel makes time fly by way too fast, and lately I find myself overwhelmed with the time I don’t have to focus on a few of the things that mean the most to me (yoga, white space, connecting with my favorite people and me time). This month, I’m focusing on that and eliminating the junk that’s crowding it out.
So, here’s a look at February…
Brew kombucha. WILL THIS EVER HAPPEN! Yes, in March!
Read a book. I’m nearly finished with Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Racing, and it’s far from what I expected… an interesting combination of motorcycle maintenance (obviously), the author’s relationship with his son, their Chautauqua, the definition of quality and the author remembering his former life.
Dinner at the table. This happened about once a week, and it was so nice to sit down without the tv on and catch up on the day. We also dined at the table with my entire Klegstad family when my parents were visiting after my beautiful niece Finley was born. Lovely!
Love notes. Postcards from faraway places count as love notes, right? I traveled to Wyoming and sunny California in February and mailed postcards to my nearest and dearest from both destinations. New tradition, yes.
Follow my training plan. Despite spending eight days out of state, I got in all but two of my planned main workouts (swim, bike, run). And, I feel amazing!
And, in March, I’ll…
Read a book. It’s all about Lance this month, as I’m reading The Secret Race. Nick couldn’t put it down and keeps trying to talk to me about it.
Commit to an earlier bedtime. Eleven o’clock just isn’t cutting it with my increased training. This month I’ll crawl into bed around 9p and read, with lights out by 10p.
Meditate. At the start of each day, just five minutes of quiet before the iPhone is turned on to focus on the day ahead. And, again at the end of the day to soak it all in. I’d also like to take an intro to Zen Buddhism meditation class.
Goal planning session. My good friend Brandyn is a goal coach at lululemon, and we’ve been talking about getting together for the past month or so. This month, we’re gonna sit down and zero in on my one, five and 10-year goals.
Yoga, twice a week. There were only five trips to the yoga studio in February. And, while I practiced at home or in the hotel a few times, it wasn’t nearly enough. My hips are tight, my hammies are tight and my mind is all over the place. I’m recommitting to two classes each week in March.
What are your March goals?

I have that same feeling where I am so dedicated to work that I feel like there is no time for the things I want to do. I hate that feeling and am really working to make time long term for more yoga, training, reading, sleeping, and spending time with family. I am all for an early bed time. I go to bed by 10 and sleep about 8 hours a night. Anything less and I just don’t function well! Here’s to a fabulous and warmer month!!!
It’s such a fine line, isn’t it?! Always working to find the right balance 🙂 Sounds like you have sleep down… send some of your early bedtime this way!
Hope your March is filled with sunshine!
Yes brew that kombucha! 🙂 Great goals. I too find it hard to get to bed at 10pm sometimes. When 9pm rolls around I think ok I’ll start to get ready and then bam it’s already 10:30, arg. I need to work on that one too. I feel so much better with 8 full hours. I’d like to work on meditation too. I tend to not be able to sit still for very long. Another one is that I’m going to start riding my bike again in March. After 10 months my body feels ready 🙂 Yay Spring!
Hooray for getting back on the bike this month! Let me know how it goes, and I’ll let you know how my kombucha turns out 🙂 Happy March, happy spring!
Great list, Erin! My March goals are ones that I’ve carried over from Feb. (and maybe January!) — get more sleep by getting quality sleep and eating foods that make me feel good!
Thanks, Hyedi! Hope your March is off to a great start! I’m excited to catch up over coffee 🙂
Very inspiring, Erin!! Let’s meet in the yoga studio sometime this month! One of my goals, too 🙂
Yes! Let’s practice together when you’re back from Charlotte, dear!
[…] Next week: More of the same, including my first race of 2013, the Irish for a Day 10 Mile on Saturday. I’ve never ran a 10-miler uninjured, so I’m pretty excited to see how it goes on trained legs! There were also be two yoga classes, per my March goals. […]
Love how you set goals for each month! Super cute!
Thank you! It helps keep me accountable 🙂
