This is a really big so-out-there-make-you-squirm-it’s-so-uncomfortable question. It makes me a bit panicky every time I read it, and honestly, thinking of an immediate, off-the-top-of-my-head answer was tough.
But, after a lot of thought, here’s what I would do…
- My ideal day involves less computer time, more yoga, more cycling, more blogging, hot pink wunder unders and home brewed espresso every hour on the hour. Could this be my real life someday?! I think so.
- Ride my bike for business and start a women’s cycling team. Who wants to be the first sponsor?
- Be a top triathlon age grouper. There is a five-hour 70.3 in me.
- Get my spin + yoga teacher certifications and open MSP’s go-to spin + yoga studio.
- Be a storyteller because everyone – everyone – has a story. I’m already scheming my first book idea.
- Run a successful + delicious food booth at the great Minnesota get together every summer (my idea has serious potential!).
- And, if I hadn’t already paid a bazillion dollars for graduate school, I’d go back to school (yes, for the third time) to be a doctor.
How about you? What would you do if failure weren’t an option? Be a brain surgeon? a dancer? a travel photographer? retire now? jump out of a plane for a living?
Let’s hear it! And, then… go do it!

I would quit my job and start my own [fitness-related] company!
I would go back to school again!
I would sign up for an Ironman!
I would learn Korean and travel to the city where I was born!
I would write a book! (I feel like we have a lot of the same ambitions 😉 )
I love this post, Erin 🙂 Yet another one to inspire me!
I love what you’d do so much, Hyedi! Do them all 🙂 What would you go back to school for? I’d love to hear about your company! And, have you ever been back to where you were born?
Thank you, dear 🙂
I’d either go back and get a Ph.D. in something related to my degree or an MPH in community health education or some kind of exercise science or nutrition degree!! 🙂 Yes — let’s chat business ideas over Brasa sometime! Nope — I’ve been planning this trip for years now. Just gotta do it!
Erin & Hyedi – our “I couldn’t fail” lists are so similar, it’s crazy!
Get my yoga teacher certification & open a yoga studio and spa.
Go back to school to get my Ph.D. in Psychology.
Organize/lead twice-annual yoga retreats (through the studio I’d own) to amazing destinations like Bali, Crete, Belize, the Maldives, etc.
Write a book on why I think yoga is a must for anyone with generalized anxiety disorder.
Learn as many languages as I possibly can.
Finally run that full marathon I’ve been talking about for the past 2 years (goal race: January 2014 Rock N Roll Phoenix).
It is crazy, erin! I’ll be the first one to sign up for a yoga retreat; what amazing places to practice 🙂
Yeah, 26.2! Do it! In 2013! 🙂
I love your list!! And I’d definitely read your book 🙂
Ooooooo, love your ideas, Sis!! I want to hear about this book idea you have. You totally could do it! And, as far as the food booth at the State Fair–YES. I think we should put some serious effort into it and do it together!
I’m still trying to think of what I would do if I knew I couldn’t fail… I will blog about it when I have my list complete. 🙂
I’ll fill you in during our next sister night (which is when, by the way?) 🙂 State fair food booth… let’s get it down on paper asap.
Can’t wait to read your list, Sista!
Love this Erin! It’s crazy that we have these wonderful, beautiful ideas, but our fear holds us back.
If I could do something knowing I wouldn’t fail I would….
-Go back to school and become a Dr
-Open my own health/wellness business that of course I would teach yoga at and have yummy healthy food and heavenly massages
-Be a musician/dancer/performer
-Write a blog that people would read
-Be an artist
We are capable of doing all the things on our lists, failure is relative, the only failure is to not try!
I love that quote… the only failure is to not try. Truth.
Awesome list, Amine! Go do them all! And, I would totally read your blog 🙂
I would travel the entire world, take pictures of all the places and write a book about it…which would be made into a movie 😉
So, so awesome, Carrisa! It starts with just one trip… 🙂
