Monday, August 13 – after seven hours of weekend bikerunyoga love, today was all about rest and recovery, homemmade chicken + veggie yellow curry and bagging up stuff for Goodwill.
Tuesday, August 14 – my stomach was a bit wonky today – thank you, Greek yogurt two days in a row – so I was a little apprehensive about tonight’s run. But, I joined my P2 teammates anyway at the Macalaster track, where we set out for a 90-minute jaunt around Highland Park. I’m glad I went because the run ended up being a fantastic combination of good conversation, new roads and a pace I haven’t kept in years.
A short, post-run spin left the legs feeling good.
Note to self: A high ponytail doesn’t fit well with a bike helmet (I was too lazy to untwist three hair ties and lower my it). Not only was it uncomfortable, my helmet never felt secure on my head.
Run: 9.51 miles, 1:20:52, 8:30 pace, route.
Bike: 4.05 miles, 19 minutes.
Wednesday, August 15 – Nick and I dragged ourselves to the pool bright and early… dang, was it tough! And, not just because it’s been a few weeks; it’s so dark at 5:30a! So not ready for fall…
After the initial ok-I’m-wide-awake-now-man-this-water-is-freezing-at-6a shock, the water felt great. I say it every time: Starting the day with a swim should happen more often. Committing: Two morning swims a week starting now!
Swim: 1,500 yards, about 33 minutes.
A little Wednesday inspiration from Danielle LaPorte… love your doubts.
Thursday, August 16 – this week has been… just… meh. I’m more than ready for this funk to be over. But, no better cure than some saddle time. Nick and I headed out for our usual spin: Summit, River Road, the lakes and the Greenway. Now that he’s found Strava (ok, me, too… does anyone else use it? Follow me!), every ride is a race for PRs, QOMs and the fastest segment splits.
Bike: 24.46 miles, 1:29:16.
Friday, August 17 – I took the afternoon off, so I got my bliss on at a midday C2 vinyasa class at the CorePower Yoga Grand Avenue studio. Lovely, mind clearing and stress melting… exactly what I needed today.
Yoga: C2 vinyasa, 60 minutes.
My Friday rounded out at Ngon Bistro with some pho + wine with my favorite person on the planet.
Saturday, August 18 – I ran solo and sans Garmin this morning and really wasn’t feeling the pavement all that much. My legs felt sluggish and slow, but I slogged through a few miles, albeit at a slower place than normal.
After my run, Nick and I teamed up for a spin (he tweaked his knee last week at soccer, so is giving it a rest from running this week) around town – Summit, Nokomis, the lakes, the Greenway, River Road and home. A fun ride… I think we’re both pushing ourselves a bit faster thanks to Strava. Nick’s not too happy that I currently have him beat up the little hill at the end of Summit Avenue at River Road 😉
Run: 3.5 miles, about 30 minutes.
Bike: 30.33 miles, 1:51:09.
We swapped our spandex for silk and wool and Saturday night celebrations at the Landmark Center downtown Saint Paul. Happy wedding day, Allyson + Brad!
Sunday, August 19 – a busy day, so all I had time for was an early morning speedy spin on the Ford-Franklin bridge loop. It was so beautiful out, and my legs were ready to ride long; I had a hard time not biking another hour and just going to Stef’s baby shower with helmet hair 😉
Bike: 15.08 miles, 52:35.
But, after a quick clean up (I even curled my hair… two days in a row… whaaaa?!), I met my lovely pretty friends to celebrate the soon-to-arrive, Baby T. We are all so excited to meet you and couldn’t be more thrilled for your parents!
I am so grateful for yin yoga on Sunday afternoons. Today’s class cleared my crazy mind so much that I zonked out in savasana for a solid 15 minutes. Pure bliss.
Yoga: yin, 60 minutes.
Weekly stats
Swim: 1,500 yards, 33:00
Bike: 73.92 miles, 4:32
Run: 13.01 miles, 1:53:52
Yoga: two classes, 1:20
This week:
- Swim twice, yoga twice and cycling.
- Oh, and skydiving. There will be skydiving on Thursday. Eek! Have you jumped out of a plane? Should I be terrified or beyond excited?
- Nick is racing his second 70.3 of the season, Superior Man Tri in Duluth. Can’t wait to sherpa and cheer!
And, big congrats to my P2 teammates Sonia, Nanette and Rob for their stellar 70.3 finishes at the Duluth Triathlon! Rocks stars!

My legs have been heavy this week too! 19 mile run on saturday makes for a slow moving Monday!
How did the 19-miler go?! Nice work, dear!
I love those bike photos! I’d probably fall off if I tried to take a pic on a bike haha! Way to tough out that run on Tuesday!
Thanks, Carrisa! Ha… I’ve been thisclose to toppling off my bike while taking pictures! 🙂
