It’s a rejuv week, so workouts are scaled back a bit to give the legs some rest + recovery… which is good, too, because next week’s P2 schedule is a doozy.
Monday, June 4 – it was too nice outside to sweat inside at the yoga studio, so after buying a new bike helmet, I hopped on my Madone for a speedy spin on the Ford-Franklin loop. Given the weekend’s workouts, my legs were surprisingly loose.
Bike: 18.33 miles, 1:08:24.
Tuesday, June 5 – seven hours in the car is booooring, especially when it involves driving to Fargo and back. Sadly, I only the enjoyed the sweet sunshine from behind my windshield and not my from bike saddle.
Wednesday, June 6 – same loop + mileage + time as Monday’s ride. Consistent! I’m glad I got home when I did; I JUST missed the sudden summer downpour.
Bike: 18.33 miles, 1:08:17.
Thursday, June 7 – my first P2 workout without Nick (he’s tapering for Grandma’s Marathon on Saturday!) was a pretty low-key bike + run brick. We rounded out a quick spin on River Road between the Ford and Franklin bridges – a familiar route this week – with a short run down Saint Clair. Short as it was, the run was… meh. I just didn’t feel like running.
Bike: 12.02 miles, 45:10.
Run: 1.7 miles, 14:50.
Friday, June 8 – after a 10-day hiatus, I finally made it back to the yoga studio. A friend of mine, Kerstin, started her free week at CorePower Yoga and joined me for the 5:30p C2 class at the Highland Park studio (it was lovely practicing with you, Kerstin!). Class was blissfully bendy, stretchy, twisty and ridiculously hot – so hot that I could literally wring out my wunder unders and tadasana tank post practice. Exactly what my body needed today.
The evening agenda: Copper River salmon + reading the July Triathlete magazine on the patio.
Saturday, June 9 – Nick and I got up early to beat the heat and get in our run + bike brick. As soon as we started running, I wanted to be done. It was hot, and my scoop neck tank felt crazy constricting. I stopped a couple times to catch my breath during our slog down Summit – well, slog for me, a breeze for Nick – and was quite happy when we finished. We hammered on the bike and cut our ride short (Ford-Lake Street bridge loop) to meet a few friends for brunch at Birchwood Café.
Run: 5.02 miles, 46:59.
Bike: 12.11 miles, 48:50.
Sunday, June 10 – after a late(r) Saturday night (happy birthday, Ian!), we slept in and skipped the morning’s P2 workout (including the first open water swim of the season at Lake Nokomis), opting for a mid-morning bike ride instead. We were en route home on the Greenway after a spin around Lake of the Isles when we noticed Open Streets MPLS (busy Lyndale Avenue was closed to traffic, allowing bikers, walkers, runners, skateboarders and yogis to take to the street for the day). It was pretty sweet to pedal up and down Lyndale sans cars!
Bike: 28.24 miles, 2:05:03 (a bit slow, but we lollygagged down Lyndale).
Weekly stats
Bike: 89.03 miles, 5:55:44
Run: 6.72 miles, 1:01:49
Not as much running this week, but it was nice to give my legs a break. The mileage will tick up again starting tomorrow!
This week’s plan: I’m out of town Tuesday-Thursday morning for work (grrr…), but have a busy week on tap, including a track workout, swimming at the hotel, more biking and at least one yoga class. Plus, Grandma’s Marathon is Saturday, and I’ll be cheering on my man plus quite a few other friends. I’ve ran both Grandma’s Marathon and the Garry Bjorkland half marathon, so I’m excited to be a spectator this time around (though I know I’ll wish I were running as soon as we pull into Duluth on Friday!).
Anyone else running Grandma’s or another race this weekend?
Have a great week, everyone!
