Weekly workouts (week of April 22):
Monday – a fast 15.04-mile bike ride outside with Nick (56:37). My cycling legs are getting stronger – I stayed on Nick’s wheel up two hills, which hasn’t ever happened. Yeah!
Tuesday – I had every intention of swimming at 5:45a. Instead, the alarm went off every nine minutes until about 6:30a (sorry, Nick!). So, after work, I took advantage of the gorgeous spring evening with a 2.5-mile run. Tuesday rounded out with a blissful C2 vinyasa yoga class at CorePower Yoga. My fingers were prunes by the end, and I had to peel myself out of savasana or I would have slept ‘til morning.
Wednesday – another perfect spring evening. Nick and I hopped on our bikes for some pace lining down the Greenway and a zip around Lake of the Isles. The smell of lilacs was intoxicating! Bike stats: 22.4 miles, 1:29:14.
Thursday – finally, after sending an Outlook invite to Nick on Wednesday, we were up with the sun for a 6a swim. Working out that early is actually enjoyable; it’s the getting out of bed part that’s always tough, especially when it’s not routine. We started with a 500m warm-up, then followed with a 500m for time to prep for Saturday’s tri. My time: 10:26 (is that decent? Even though I taught swimming lessons for years, I never swam competitively, so I have no idea what’s a respectable time). We finished with a 500m cool down. Total swim time: 41 minutes.
Friday – given Saturday’s tri, we kept our evening 2.15-mile run nice and easy. I didn’t even bring my Garmin… it’s so refreshing to run sans watch!
Saturday – Take the Hill Triathlon! Less than ideal weather, I finished in 1:32:43. Yeah! Race recap coming tomorrow.
Saturday night festivities – St. Paul Art Crawl in Lowertown. My good friend Jesikah had her fantastic work on display, so a bunch of us stopped by for a visit + wine.
Sunday – since I hadn’t CFed all week, I got up for CrossFit St. Paul, even though it probably should have been a rest day. The workout – hero WOD Manion – was especially brutal… seven rounds for time: 400m run + 29 back squats. I threw 53 pounds on the bar (ladies Rx was 93 pounds), finishing in 30:59. Rounds five and six were tough, so I split up the back squats (10-10-9). On the final round, I just wanted to be done, so powered through unbroken. Walking is gonna hurt.
Sunday rounded out with some road bike shopping (congrats on your sassy new wheels, Mary!) and soccer playing + spectating.
