Monday, April 16 – C2 vinyasa yoga at CorePower Yoga St. Paul. Taught by one of my favorite instructors, Brigitte, class was wonderfully hot and humid on a chilly, rainy afternoon. The fun, challenging balancing series was topped off with a blissful savasana.
Tuesday, April 17 – sister night. Following a shopping trip to JoAnn Fabrics (curtain fabric found!), ami and I caught up over grilled Gruyere + pesto sandwiches and red wine.
Wednesday, April 18 – CrossFit St. Paul.
- Warm-up: 800m run.
- Lift: deadlift up to a heavy single (123 pounds). A far cry from my 203-pound PR, but I’ll get back there!
- WOD: three rounds for time (rest as needed between rounds): 15 deadlifts (103 pounds) + 800m run. 4:10 / 4:29 / 4:21. Even with rest, this WOD was hard; 800s are lung burners! Yay for negative last splits!
Thursday, April 19 – 100 kettle bell swings (12 kg KB) + 50 goblet squats + catching up on bloglovin’ + vacuuming + crafting. Motivation to workout disappeared today. I debated yoga, but knew my mind would be somewhere other than on my mat. A relaxing evening at home was exactly what I needed.
Friday, April 20 – really wanted some vinyasa flow after work, but we had already committed to dinner plans with friends. Turned out to be a fun Friday night.
Saturday, April 21 – CrossFit St. Paul. Hit open gym to do Friday’s WOD: Filthy 50. That’s 50 reps of each of the following for time: box jumps, jumping pull-sup, kettle bell swings (12 kg), walking lunges, knees-to-elbows (I will master these!), push press (33 pounds), back extension, wall ball shots (10 pounds), burpees and double unders. Box jumps and burpees felt ridiculously slow, and KTEs were brutal (not sure what these are? Watch this video). And, even though I can string together five or so double unders, I opted for 150 unbroken single skips because I was beat. My time: 32:01. Surprisingly, this was only about two minutes slower than the last time I did it in July 2011 when I was in much better CrossFit shape. Hmm… anyway, thanks so much, Andrea, for WODing with me! It made Filthy 50 a little less, well, filthy 🙂
Sunday, April 22 – bike / run brick with Nick. My first brick of the season! Our bike route: Summit –> East River Road –> Ford bridge –> West River Road –> Franklin bridge –> Summit –> home. Our run route: Chatsworth –> Summit –> Dale –> Selby –> Chatsworth. My legs were a bit sore from Filthy 50, but it felt good to bike (plus, my pacer kept a good clip!). My legs protested a bit from the bike to run, but loosened up about a half mile in and felt pretty good the rest of the way. Cross your fingers my hip and hammy don’t start acting up!
- Bike stats: 15.03 miles, 57:43
- Run stats: 2 miles, 17:20
Sunday rounded out with a massage from the lovely Katie of lift at CrossFitMPLS. A perfect end to a super weekend!

‘bike / run brick’
What does this mean?!?!? Intrigue!
bike / run brick– what does this mean?!?! So curious, but sounds fun 🙂
As soon as you’re done biking, transition quickly and head out for a run (just like you would if you were doing a triathlon). It is fun!
