that minnesota cold.

01/04/2017

“HOLY HELL,” said a friend from California when I told her it was -7F in Minnesnowta this morning.

Yeah, it’s cold AF, but the bright side: when it’s this cold it’s usually sunny. And, who doesn’t love a little vitamin D in the dead of winter?!

I like to say I’d love to live where temps don’t dip below freezing, but who am I kidding. I’m Minnesotan through and through. There’s something about days like today that really make me feel alive – even when I can’t feel my fingers during my quick lunch walk with Luma! (Next purchase: Hestra narpes mittens.)

There are three more months of winter. Bundle up – there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing – embrace it and get outside!

In training news, I ran three miles on the treadmill tonight. I’d much rather run outside – even in this weather – but since my offseason fell during the gradual ease into winter temps, I’m not quite acclimated… yet. Anyway, I can’t believe I ran an entire marathon just seven shorts weeks ago at a faster pace than tonight. The sign of a good offseason – and of lots of work to do…!

I have yet to run outside in this weather — it’s a tad too much for me, and I’m nervous about the icy sidewalks too! But next week should be better!

Spoken like a true Minnesotan! I realized very quickly that only living in MN for High School/College…and eventually Grad School again, definitely did not make me a true Minnesotan ha

I said it once and I’ll say it again, “HOLY HELL.”

I hear ya! It’s been hitting record cold temps here in Vancouver (hello climate change?) and the roads are skating rinks because the city has no experience with winter. This has meant way too many runs on the ‘mill. At least I could run on nice packed snow in Winnipeg.

Love these quick little daily posts. 🙂
I loved that about Minnesota– that the cold days were at least nice and sunny. Definitely one thing I tend to miss in the winter time in Oregon.
