Here’s what’s been up this first month of 2016…

listening to

Sound Probiotics on Endurance Planet. I’d been saving this episode for weeks until I had a block of uninterrupted time to listen – perfect for last week’s long run on the ‘mill. Sound founder Dr. Mark Stephany dives into to role of probiotics on gut health and, in turn, the impact both have on an endurance athlete and his/her immune system and athletic performance. A must-listen, folks. And, for more info on probiotics, check out Sound’s eBook. Side note: I’ve been taking Sound for a year and (knock on wood) haven’t been sick once. Hit me up if you need a discount code 🙂

My hometown newspaper! The editor recently reached out, so I knew there’d be an article soon, but certainly wasn’t expecting it to be front-page news. While I don’t find my journey particularly inspiring – because I’m just doing something I love – if it inspires one person to make a lifestyle change, to get out of their comfort zone and try something new, then that’s awesome. My advice: find and do an activity that brings you joy and is FUN, whether that’s Jazzercise, triathlon, running marathons, rock climbing, yoga, walking! Because if you’re not having fun, what’s the point?! Life’s too short.

Read the full newspaper article here. Thanks for featuring me, Enterprise!

grocery shopping + meal planning

Nick and I started a new routine this month (that’s going to stick!) – Sunday grocery shops – in hopes to lessen stressful weekday trips to the store after that almost daily 4p question: what should we have for dinner? We kicked it off by going to Costco, Target and Valley Natural Foods… because of course everything can’t be at one place, right?! Regardless, it made this past week a little smoother – and, there were leftovers (twice!) for both of us for lunch. If anyone’s interested, I can do a more detailed post of our shopping staples and what we cook to fuel our training 🙂

watching

While I’ve been trying to cut my screen time – off by 9:30p is hard – I have been sucked into a couple new tv shows, including American Crime and Mr. Robot. We don’t have Netflix (gasp!), but the DVR is full with the Bachelor, Blindspot, Modern Family, Biggest Loser, Fixer Upper, and Love, Lust or Run (among numerous others).

The silver screen’s also been in the mix the past month, as we saw Joy and the Revenant (doubling the number of movies we’ve gone to in the past four years!). Completely different movies, but both were excellent. Joy because it’s about a strong willed, resilient woman (go, J. Law!) and the Revenant because of its close-your-eyes intensity (the grizzly mauling scene… OMG) and stunning sweeping landscapes.

learning

Brené Brown’s Living Brave semester. I’ve been a Brené fan since she published Daring Greatly, and lucky me even heard her speak at a small event in Minneapolis(!). So, when she announced this course, I signed up immediately. Over the next 12 weeks, we’ll be reading both Daring Greatly and Rising Strong – as we explore vulnerability and being brave + more daring via weekly reflection and writing sessions. I’m ready to get out of my comfort zone, grow and choose courage over complacency.

selling

A giant stash of lululemon. I still have some goods left – along with some J Brand + J. Crew denim and a black patent leather Tory Burch tote. If you’re interested, shoot me a note!

Congratulations on being featured in your hometown paper! That is so much fun! Tim and I have been meal planning for the week on the weekends for the past year and have had huge success! It is so much less stressful and we find ourselves eating healthier (and not spending as much money on eating out). I would love to hear about some of your go to recipes. We are always looking for fun new recipes that keep us fueled, happy and healthy! Learning about vulnerability, courage, and being brave have been a challenge for me, but that is what it is all about…finding comfort through uncertainty.

I would love to see what you cook! I’m also trying to cut back on daily trips to the store. I’m going to message you about the tote!

So fun that you were featured in the newspaper!! Dan and I shop on Sundays too. I prepare lunches and some dinners so there is barely in work to be done on the week days. It is a good habit to have. We rarely go to the store a second time but we only get what we are going to eat so come Sunday morning we are out of food!! 🙂

I’d love to hear more about your shopping and what you make. New ideas and ways of eating are of interest to me. Congrats on your local feature in the paper. I can’t imagine how proud your family is!

So exciting to be featured in your hometown paper! I’m interested in seeing your weekly meal prep post; I’ve been meaning on writing one for us for too long now. I’m definitely going to check out that podcast too, sounds right up my alley.

Thanks for the tip on the podcast! Off to have a listen!
Ah meal planning… I spend a chunk of a morning on the weekend to plan out our meals for the week, then hit up Costco and the grocery store to get everything we need. I found that if we didn’t have a plan it was way too easy for us to be lazy and to go out to eat.
I would love to get some ideas of what you cook to fuel your training!

How fun to be in your paper! Congrats!
I’m listening to the newest serial. Didn’t get as much listening time as I wanted because the BOY stole my head phones on our trip. I did download some awesome yoga postcasts though!
