Where has summer gone?! Not quite sure how it’s already August. Nonetheless, it’s been a good one. Here’s what’s been up…
drinking
All the fluids. I’m usually a really good hydrator and don’t leave the house without my bkr in tow. But, this past weekend (as well as couple other times this summer), I completely failed. Sunday’s brick wasn’t difficult, but whoa, was it hot + humid. Despite three bottles of Osmo active and a bottle of water during the three-hour ride and one bottle of Osmo after (not to mention the Osmo preload before the ride and the water I drank the rest of the afternoon), I completely bonked. The massive headache and puking that evening weren’t fun. Lesson learned: Drink far more Osmo and water on sunny 85-degree days as well all day every. single. day.
loving
My sister’s #finleyandlucy photo series on Instagram. She is an incredibly talented photographer, and her subjects… I am certain Finley is the cutest little girl ever, and Lucy, well, she’s a one-of-a-kind vizsla 🙂 They’re too cute to just share one pic!
watching
le Tour. Pretty sure we didn’t watch anything else the entire month of July. Those guys are amazing, but hello… what about the women?! Super bummed la Course wasn’t broadcast on NBC Sports like le Tour was (who evens gets Universal Sports Network?!). Let’s get equal coverage – and more races! – for women! One day of racing is not enough.
focused on
Ironman Wisconsin. It’s occupying my every thought and practically every waking moment, and quite frankly, given what coach has in TrainingPeaks this week… yikes. The next three weeks are gonna be intense. Also, bib numbers were just posted…! I’m 792! Thirty days!
reading
I recently picked up Brené Brown’s Daring Greatly for the second time, and it’s even more powerful this time around. A must-read. And, while I’m still reading blogs, I’ve drastically cut back on commenting because I just don’t have time (and, quite frankly, don’t want to stare at a computer at night after doing so all day at work). I’m sorry, friends! I’ll try pick it back up after Wisconsin 🙂
obsessing over
lululemon speed shorts. I’ve always loved these running shorts – the colors! the patterns! the fit! – but after joining a speeds-obsessed facebook group, jeez… suddenly I want every single pair ever made. I blame Katie for the group introduction 😉
irritating me
My sciatic. Oof… if you’ve ever dealt with sciatica, you know how painful it can be. It’s been ok lately, but there were some rough bike rides, including at Chisago 70.3. Hoping the stretching (prescribed by Julia!) and my new Cobb JOF Fifty-Five saddle (lucky me found it in stealth black!) combo does the trick, and it’s gone for good!
contemplating
Life, still. I’m closing in on 35 and really thinking about where I am in life. Is this really where I thought I’d be (not really), and where do I want to be five years from now? Fulfillment… yeah, it’s gonna be a drastic change. #thirdlifecrisis
quote of the week
Two for you…
You will always be too much of something for someone: Too big, too loud, too soft, too edgy. If you round out your edges, you lose your edge. Yes, indeed, Danielle LaPorte.
Stop waiting for Friday. Live now. Do it now. Take risks. Tell secrets. This life is yours. When are you going to realize that you can do whatever you want?
Have a great weekend, friends.

Those baby pictures are priceless-your sister has some skills! She made that cool training time thing for IMC right? I hear you about the midlife crisis thing. I just made the decision that I’m done having kids over the last week. It’s the right decision, but it left me pretty emotional. I guess triathlon will have to be my new baby.
Hate hitting a life crisis. I just turned 27 and am contemplating all the same things and I feel like I’ll hit them every few years. I was hoping it would get easier, but that doesn’t really seem to be the case :/
Also, your sister is very talented! Those pics are adorable!
<3 you, friend! Was great to catch up the other day. The pics of Lucy and Finley are TOO cute 🙂
Sorry to hear about your heatstroke… sounds awful! You just have to remember that you hydrate for tomorrow’s run/bike/race today.
Funny you mention Le Tour de France and La Course: I was just thinking to myself, a non cyclist who only knows Giro d’Italia besides Le Tour, why isn’t there a women’s race?
I hear you about life: needing to make money vs. wanting to pursue your passions are a tough decision.
p.s. your next race should be in Europe, you never know what might happen! 😉
I love the Finley and Lucy series! I will be checking out more…
Love that second quote, something I’ve been pondering as well….
And obviously, I love the Finley/Lucy pics, they are great!
Can’t resist an adorable dog & baby duo. Have you seen Zoe & Jasper?
No! Who are Zoe and Jasper?! On insta??
Adorable baby & pup pics. I too love the speedshorts. Big fan of them and I feel as though they have been cut a little looser lately. Could be all the IM training or could be the backlash from that last lulu fall out. Either way, works for me. You are going to do so well at Wisconsin. Cannot wait to cheer you on from my computer.
I love your posts. Just sayin.
I’ve seen you and Katie and Sonja all talk about Daring Greatly and I’m quite tempted to read it too..hmm… And that second quote- YES YES and more YES. I’m trying to embrace that, the bf is encouraging me to do so, but gosh it is hard. I like stability, routine, and all that jazz (though you probably wouldn’t call it “jazz”)- but we have one life to live, why not go out and LIVE it?
Super cute photos!! I too am going through a third life crisis…somedays I’m happy with my career and others I just want to walk away from it completely and start fresh. IMWI is closing in fast. Looking forward to race weekend and hopefully meeting in person. When are you heading over to Madison?
Thanks! She’s so talented 🙂 A fresh start would be nice, right?! I’m so tempted to do it, but it’s a BIG leap. But, sometimes those are the best to take… outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens!
Yes! Madison! We will definitely have to meet up 🙂 I think we’re leaving Thursday around noon and will be staying until Monday afternoon-ish. What day will you guys be there?
OMG those photos are too cute!! Sounds like you are well BUT Ironman on the brain. I feel your pain. I was living it a month ago! 🙂 I have to change careers. It has to happen. Sooner than later…I hope! We have to be able to do something with all our tri experience?! Right?! That has to count for something!! 🙂
I follow your sister on instagram because I love those pics!!! And that sunglasses one is freaking amazing.
Hey keep up with some core strength too–I know time is prescious but glute and core activation will help too.
Hang in there and email me if you need more ideas!
Sorry about the bonk! That is no fun
I took a little step away from blog commenting too. After a whole day at work the last thing I wanted to do was sit at the computer at home too. Even tougher when the weather is nice and I just want to be playing outside! 🙂
So excited for you that IMWI is coming up so soon! You are totally going to rock it.
Your sister’s photos are so great! Love all these once with the pup and your niece together. 🙂 Might have to be a new follower. 🙂
Ooooh! What do you think about the new saddle? I just ordered the same one and some of my friends are doing IM Wiscosin! 🙂 I’m excited for you!!!
I love the quote about Friday, and the pic in the hats, so steakin cute!!! keep up the great training you are almost there.
I am so with you on the third life crisis, who has time for full time (and more) work, house, friends, family, kinds AND ironman, jeesh.
Great write up Erin!
I love speed shorts!!!! awww the colors. I cant help but to agree
30 says?! ufta time flies.
Love this round up! You live an inspired life, Erin! And those quotes were a perfect reminder on a Monday morning! Have a great week!
I just bought and started using Osmo products last week (thanks to all of you who rave about it). I must say, I love it. ☺ Wow, IMWI is only a month away!? So excited for you. Can’t wait to hear how it compares to Canada and how the second experience compares to the first. I’m sorry to hear you are going through some life struggles right now. I think it’s completely normal and it seems as though a lot of people go through similar contemplations. If you could be following your dreams and doing what you have a passion for, where would that lead you? What are your goals?
Can’t believe how quickly IMWI is coming up for you guys! I’ve loved following along with your training through your blog and IG. It’s been impressive to say the least!
I think I’m going to have to try Osmo next time I train for something big.
Kinda creepy, but I started following your sister on IG a while ago. Her photos are so awesome, and I love the Finley/Lucy series! some of the days are to die for!
Hopefully after the ironman you can focus more on your contemplation, work, etc!
Lastly, I hope the new saddle and streching help with your sciatica!!
LOVE that quote about you always be “too” much of something for someone. You are such a bright light in this world, and I’m thankful to call you my friend. I’m so excited for you to do Wisconsin! I’m going to have to check out that book Daring Greatly. I LOVE the pics of Finley and Lucy. Adorbs. And I’m only getting back into blog reading now that Whistler is over. I totally know the feeling. I fell off the face of the earth during Whistler training. 🙂 xoxo!
There is always so much to contemplate each year that goes by in my 30’s. Last year, it was a huge overall in my job and now I’m planning a wedding. When I add in all of my racing goals and traveling goals,..it’s a lot to think about. I get a little more introspective around birthdays too and with 33 just 1 week away, I’ve been thinking a lot!
Just a note to say I always enjoy reading. Go get ’em in Wis, lady!
Thanks so much, Jen!
totally back your thoughts on the tour!
