So, it’s June, though it feels like April here. And, a new month means new goals. But, first, my May goals… were 50/50. The pluses: We organized some of the disarray in the house – hello, clean(er) dining table; goodbye, recycled months-old magazines – and I foam rolled once a week (though it should be more than that). What didn’t happen: reading and Sunday meal prep. Not sure why it’s so difficult to plan weekly dinners… the co-op six blocks away makes it far too easy to pop in to pick up a healthy + local dinner most nights!

Here’s what’s up in June…

love more, hate less

I’ve already been working on this one for a couple weeks, but it still needs more work. Think back to recent conversations you’ve had with your friends and family. You’ve probably talked about the ridiculous price of gas ($4.29 a gallon!) and just how terrible the weather’s been in Minnesota (50 degrees on June 1?! C’mon!). And, if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably mindlessly said: The price of gas, I HATE it! I HATE this weather! Well, enough with the hate! There are very few things I actually hate (wood ticks, mice, spiders, my eyebrows), so it’s time for more love. Because, really, there is a LOT to love about this beautiful life (I’m even learning to accept my eyebrows).

operation organize (continued)

We made quite a bit of progress in May, including finding a home for the four Garmins (a basket from Target), cleaning off the dining table (and keeping it clean) and buying more storage baskets and a new office chair. This month: Sorting through the bazillion books in the office and perhaps some new paint on the walls.

reading

I’ve been about seven pages into Chrissie Wellington’s A Life Without Limits for all of May. Pretty sure I should turn off HGTV and the Bachelorette and stop playing dots (omg, addicting!) and read… because I know it’s gonna be an inspiring book and with Ironman Canada less than three months away, there couldn’t be a better time to read it.

herb garden

Fresh basil, cilantro, lavender and rosemary from your own garden flavoring up your home-cookin’?! Yes, please! I’m ready to dig in the dirt and plant a potted herb garden on our deck.

What are your goals this month?

Happy June, friends!

    Great goals, friend!

Mine are: 1. To eat less sugar, dairy and gluten. I know these things don’t make me feel good, so why eat it? 2. To get up earlier! 3. To volunteer somewhere for an afternoon/evening 4. I will also go with “To read more!” I keep buying books but never reading them 🙂 5. To take afternoon walk breaks or don’t eat at my desk everyday.

LOVE your goals, friend! I may need to add a couple of them to July 🙂

If only that were the price of gas in the UK – we pay closer to $9.50/gallon!!!

Like you, I’m desperately trying to get my life organised, but it seems like such a shame to be indoors tidying when I could be out enjoying the weather and running/cycling/swimming!… and then when I am at home, I need to catch up on email, laundry, cooking that I have no time for the really mundane stuff.

My goals for this month include getting back to my poor, neglected blog; getting on track with my diet/healthy eating and upping my training 🙂

$9.50 a gallon?! That’s crazy! There would definitely be a lot of bike commuting!

Great goals for this month! Hope they’re coming along nicely 🙂 I’ll pop over to your blog!

I love that you openly talk about your eyebrows. I avoid the subject so people don’t focus on them, in hopes of them not noticing (which we know isn’t going to happen!). I should start accepting mine as well but that would probably take years of convincing. I’d much rather just have normal eyebrows! 🙂 Stupid eyebrows.

I don’t have “goals” because that leaves me disappointed when they aren’t reached, so instead, I will strive to 1.) keep the bathroom clean (why, why, why is this so difficult!?) 2.) Write in Finley’s baby book. 3.) Workout more. 4.) Finish up photo edits. 5.) Work on Etsy shop details. 6.) Limit sweets. 7.) Stick to Finley’s routine/schedule so she is a good sleeper/napper!

    xoxoxo!

Stupid eyebrows is right! Let’s schedule a consultation SOON. Also, the people I’ve told lately about them never guessed I pencil them in, so maybe they do look legit 🙂

Fantastic goals, Sista! I need to join you on number one, and let’s do some planning for number five! xoxo.

love your goals and how open and honest you are! and the look of the new site! my birthday is at the end of the month so i’m focusing on ending this year in a good way – getting a legit exercise schedule figured out, watching less tv, eating more vegetables, and being a nicer person in general. we’ll see how it works out!:)

I have pots to plant something (herbs? lemon tree? succulents?) so I need to do that this weekend! I was just also gifted 2 boxes of amazing books and even though I’ve been pretty good about reading, I want to set aside time on the weekends to read, something I haven’t been doing much of.

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:02 pm

A lemon tree would be amazing! Wonder if I could get one to grow here…

Any good books you’ve read lately? I need to make more time for reading, too!

I can completely empathize with you regarding the weather…Iowa isn’t much better right now!! I’m glad that it isn’t snowing (like it did last month), but I would really like to experience some June like weather soon!! I would HIGHLY recommend finishing Chrissie Wellington’s book soon (while the weather doesn’t feel like summer yet)…especially with IM Canada only a few months away!! It is very motivational, inspirational and will give you some focus to get you through the most difficult training months!!

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:02 pm

It’s finally warmed up! Hope it has in Iowa, too, and that you’re getting in some good training sessions! I’m going to dive into Chrissie’s book on Sunday 🙂

I LOVE your first goal: I’m so frustrated lately with people who complain about things they can control, it adds to the already numerous stresses of life. I also hate how I have to fill my eyebrows in, I wish they were thicker and darker in colour 🙂

My goals this month are to continue to study for my Life in the UK Test (for settlement in the UK), continue to eat healthy (really helps when the husband is on board with it), to hit the 10 mile mark for my long runs, and to hopefully get a PR in one of the two 10km’s I’m doing this month.

I also want to buy that Chrissie Wellington book, I’ll make sure to get it for July because the only thing I’m reading about right now is life in the UK!

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:05 pm

Great goals, Danielle! Hope your studying is going well! That test would be interesting… is it on the history of the UK? And, hope running is going well… I know you’ll hit the 10-mile mark no problem 🙂

sounds great! I would love to try an herb garden or some kind of garden here even if it is 115 degrees in the summer lol We decided to put our townhome on the market and we have lots of little projects that we need to accomplish and fix before selling and finding a home!

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:06 pm

How exciting! Are you staying in area or relocating? Good luck with everything! And, herbs grow well inside near a sunny window, too (I think!) 🙂

I think it feels more like October : )
Great goals this month! I have a mint plant that I am excited about and should have made a goal to keep it alive (and actually use the mint) ha ha! Happy June!

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:07 pm

Mint is SO good! Love adding it to ice water. Hope it’s thriving! 🙂

I didn’t know you had a blog! Love it! Seeing your title gave me an idea for my new blog (I’ve been thinking about a new one w/ my move to Alabama)…I’m going with Sweat Home Alabama. Now to just find the time to migrate everything. Hope you had a great race today!

    • Reply erin 06/21/2013 at 4:13 pm

Yes! Hi! Thanks for stopping by! I like your new blog title! Hope the migration to the new site is going well (I’m so behind on blog reading!). Race was awesome… thank you! 🙂
