ironman canada // week five

03/11/2013

Other than a 10 mile race on Saturday – race report this week! – week five of Ironman Canada training was fairly uneventful. I ran every day but Sunday and, to be honest, all but the race and an early morning five miler in the middle of a snowstorm were mentally challenging. I slogged through a couple later evening runs when all I really wanted to do was relax on the sofa and watch DVRed episodes of the Amazing Race. But, those workouts, the ones that push you outside your comfort zone, are the ones that make you a stronger person and athlete. So much of triathlon (or any athletic endeavor for that matter) is mental, and if you can keep your mind in it, you’re winning.

In other training news, I finally made it back to the yoga studio. Yin yoga has never felt so good – and, it was a gentle reminder that my hips + hammies need more #yogalove than once every few weeks. I also scrapped Sunday’s 3,300-yard swim to spend all afternoon with two of my favorite ladies: my sis and niece Finley. Best idea ever. These two are the essence of my #bestlife.

In non-training news…

Who doesn’t stop mid-run at the co-op to pick up a half gallon of organic chocolate milk?

A girls night consisting of fresh guac at Rosa Mexicano and flamenco dancers at the Cowles Center is a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday.

Life is lovelier with this little peanut in it.

This week: Despite a somewhat meh week and some really tired legs, I’m feeling good overall – stronger and increased endurance. But, I did learn something this week: Triathlon and everything that comes with it are really awesome and really fun, and I’ve made amazing friends because of it, but it’s not everything. There are some pretty awesome things and people outside the sport, too… like my sister and Finley, a good glass of Malbec, sleep and having all the laundry done! 🙂

Weekly stats

Swim: 2,700 yards, 1:09
Bike: 29.55 miles, 1:59:07
Run: 29.6 miles, 4:23:19
Yoga: one class, 60:00

Next week: Another much needed running rest day today, but it’ll pick up again tomorrow. And, big news on the bike front!

Have a great week, friends!

Word sister. A wise person once told me that if ur doing 90% of what’s planned for an Ironman u are right on track. We call it the 90% rule 🙂 can’t wait to see some bike porn!

I love that snowy shot! And your little niece, of course! 🙂
I didn’t do my scheduled run this week, I really wanted a quiet morning at home (after a busy weekend) so I skipped it! At first I was feeling really bad, but just like you said, it’s not everything. (Even if my workouts are much shorter than yours!!)

Thank you! We definitely need to chat next time instead of yelling hi from across the street 🙂
