ironman canada // week four

The highlight of my week:

The week started in San Diego, where I ran a couple times on the hotel treadmill, and on Wednesday morning, ran – down and up 12 percent grade – to the ocean. Heaven. Every single day should start with a run by the ocean. Pack your bags, Nick 😉

Highlights of this week’s training in photos…

Kettle bells, ring rows, planks and get-ups with good friend KJ at Ambition Athletics in Encinitas.

Friday night fun: Hill intervals on the treadmill!

And, a lovely sunshiny Sunday morning eight-mile run with Sonia.

In non-training news…

San Diego is beautiful.

And, KJ is the hostess with the mostest. Should you be in California, stay with her… turn-down service with dark chocolate truffles 🙂

Dark chocolate sea salt cookies make the best post bike + swim workout recovery food.

If Nick isn’t careful, his SRM may accidentally end up on my new Argon.

In heart news, there really isn’t any other than I’m a-ok. It’s fluttered occasionally the past few weeks, but nothing alarming. I think my anxiety about it actually made it worse and now that all tests came back normal, I’m breathing easier. I had a nice visit with my aunt Merietta last weekend, and much to my surprise, she’s experienced the same thing. She even wore a holter monitor for a month! Must run in the family.

And, BIG congrats to my #TeamSOAS teammates Hailey and Katie on stellar finishes on their first races of the season! Hailey took home third place hardware at Escape from Alcatraz, and Katie fourth place honors at the Desert International Triathlon. Awesome swimbikerunning!

This week: Ironman Canada week four in the books! Overall, training is going really well, and I’m feeling great! I missed one swim and a yoga class this week, but I’m not fretting. Some days down time – and sleep! – are more important than 1,700 yards in the pool.

Weekly stats

Swim: 5,500 yards, 2:09
Bike: 31.13 miles, 2:08:33
Run: 25.02 miles, 4:01:10
Yoga: one class (at home): 30:00

Next week: More of the same, including my first race of 2013, the Irish for a Day 10 Mile on Saturday. I’ve never ran a 10-miler uninjured, so I’m pretty excited to see how it goes on trained legs! There were also be two yoga classes, per my March goals.

Is anyone else running the 10 miler?

I’m so jealous of your San Diego trip! I can’t wait until the weather is nice enough for some outdoor running that you don’t need to bundle up for 🙂

So pretty! You went from running on the beach to running in the snow, talk about extremes!

I love running by the Ocean…what a treat for us Midwesterners : )
So glad to hear that you are a-ok!!! A 10 miler is a great distance for a race. I’m doing one in May and can’t wait!

It is! Living by the ocean would be the life 🙂 What race are you running in May? Ten is a fun distance!

A local 13.1 May 5th and then a 10 miler Memorial Day weekend. I had to take a lot of classes on the weekends last year so I am catching up on all my races : )

San Diego! We were there over Christmas and I ran by the ocean every day so I’m with you on how awesome it is and how hilly it is there! Get down to Mission Beach for a run (or just to hang out) if you can. Also, Rubicon Deli (www.therubicondeli.com/) makes the BEST sandwiches!

I’ll take ocean runs vs. winter runs any day 🙂 Thanks for the tips… I’ll definitely check them out next time I’m there!
