ironman canada // week three

02/25/2013

Thursday marked my 10th consecutive day running. Pretty sure that’s the longest running streak since I trained for Grandma’s Marathon in 2008. I’d be lying if I said my legs weren’t tired, but it’s a good tired. I’m really enjoying all the miles!

Best run of the week: Suraya’s 32nd birthday run on Monday. Cold and windy – the temp dropped from 30 to about 10 that afternoon – but we warmed up after with curry and chocolate cake.

Saturday morning: bike threshold test. I had no idea what to expect, as I usually just hop on my bike and ride. And, until this winter, I never biked consistently on the trainer. After the warm-up, three one-minute intervals and endurance pace pedaling, I picked it up to the hardest pace I could hold for 20 minutes (minutes 50 through 70). My legs were shot by the end, but I’m pretty certain I could push it a bit harder 🙂

Coach Joe analyzed my data in Training Peaks and found my threshold heart rate: 166 bpm. All this number data is new to me, so I’m still processing. Has anyone else done a threshold spin and have insight?

Here’s my Garmin data…

In non-training news…

Much of my week was spent with two of my favorite girls. Life is so much sweeter with Finley Kathleen – and Lucy! – in it 🙂

And, cheering for Nick from afar while he raced his second Birkie. Despite the less than ideal snow conditions, he did awesome, shaving 10 minutes from his 2012 time!

Weekly stats

Ironman Canada week three done! And, my biggest swimming week… progress!

Swim: 5,100 yards, 1:56:23
Bike: 43.73 miles, 3:03:32
Run: 19.64 miles, 3:09:32

Next week: I’m at a conference in sunny San Diego until Wednesday. After months of being buried in snow, I cannot wait for some sunshine and 70s! My running shoes and travel yoga mat will be put to good use 🙂

Have a great week, friends!
