in february…

02/08/2013

January was, well, nearly a bust. I’m not sure what it was… maybe the insanely cold weather, my crazy work schedule or some health issues I’ve been sorting out. Regardless, last month was kinda meh, but February has started out with a bang. It’s already the eighth, and I’m just posting my monthly goals!

With that, a look at last month…

So long sugar. Welcome lots o’ greens! I have a ridiculous sweet tooth (for dark chocolate, homemade goodies, gf coconut macaroons from the co-op) and after the holidays needed to stop cold turkey. The first couple weeks started off well, but by mid-month, I’d had some 90 percent dark chocolate and gf macaroons. And, you know what? I didn’t feel bad about. Moderation!

Swim twice a week. Twice a week turned into twice all month. Gah! That will change in February.

Better navigate my student loans. Student loan companies are a nightmare, and sad to say, I didn’t make any progress figuring them out. February…

Organization. Nick and I hit up IKEA at the beginning of the month, and out of the millions of glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections and clever coffee tables, the baskets we wanted were completely sold out. Go figure. It wasn’t a completely bust, though, as we got a file cabinet. Operation organization will continue in February.

Launch new blog with my sister. This may have been a bit lofty. Between keeping up with this blog and my sister being nearly nine months pregnant – I’M GONNA BE AN AUNTIE SOON! – launching a blog together just didn’t happen. Perhaps a better six-month goal.

So, here’s what’s up in February…

Brew kombucha. My GT’s Kombucha gingerade habit is out.of.control. I’m scared to add up just how much money I spent on the stuff in January. So, with the SCOBY Dave gave me in December, I will finally brew my own.

Read a book. I finished Iron War last month (if you’re a triathlete, it’s definitely worth a read), and this month I’ll be reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Fifty pages in, it’s fantastic. Even neater: It’s written by a Minnesota author.

Dinner at the table. We inhale eat dinner, parked on the sofa, tv on, every.single.night. You can relate? Oh, good; we’re not the only ones. But, this month, we’re gonna enjoy dinner, at the table, tv off, three nights a week.

Love notes. There’s nothing better than receiving a handwritten letter via snail mail (especially from my grandma!). So, this month I’m sending my nearest + dearest a sweet little love note. Watch your mailboxes, friends!

Follow my training plan, month one. Training with Coach Joe started February 1, and so far, it’s going really well. This month, despite a busy work travel schedule to Denver and Cheyenne and possibly Michigan, I’m sticking to it to a tee.

What are your February goals?

Good luck! For your student loans, can you not take out a loan from the bank to pay out the student loan, then make monthly payments to the bank instead? That’s what I did (along with consolidating a few other things). I’ve read about American student loan companies, it sounds like a nightmare!

That’s not a bad idea, thanks! I’ll have to look into that to see if anyone’s done that here.

Erin, I hear you with the loans. It is such a pain!

I like reading books by local authors. I will have to check that one out.
